Your description of your writing process reminds of a quotation that often sustains me as a writer when I am struggling to articulate an idea that shimmers in my mind but can't quite put to paper (or keyboard). It has a number of versions and attributions but my favorite is credited to old-timey sportswriter Red Smith who supposedly said or wrote: "Writing a column is easy. You just sit at the typewriter until little drops of blood appear on your forehead."

Sometimes, I have found, I can side-step that blockage by printing out my initial on-screen attempts of what I am trying to articulate and viewing it on paper. Somehow, my brain views and absorbs onscreen and printed material in very different ways.

Hope to see you both soon.

Your blogs are so raw and honest. As a nurse who has worked with Alz patients (and family with dementia) it is incredibly important to understand things from the patient’s point of view. You are helping others so much, and I am so grateful.

By the way - so many hysterical memories from working with you at Hillside 💙.

I’m just getting caught up on your last few posts. Thank you for your honesty. I’m continuing to send much love out to you and Wendy. Your comment about missing her natural smile really hit me. You both are going through so much. I’ve also been thinking about music, as we clearly have a shared connection with that ( and didn’t Jerry Garcia have an SG?). Anyway, how does it work for you these days when you’re singing along to a song? Do you stumble at all or is the line my line, memory by rote? Does the actual music aid in spitting out the words one after another? I think about how many songs I know all the words to without consciously trying and I can’t even remember by best friends cell number. Just curious if you had any insights into this? Peace.

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for being part of this. My memory loss is all in the short term, so songs that I love I still know - thankfully. And yes, Jerry also played an SG! I'm in very good company with that particular axe.

Sean
